:the description, the Timer 1 of the i8254 has been used for DRAM
:refreshes in the early days [means 8086 & co.]. It should be unused

    Should be.  Unfortunately timer 1 appears to severely effect booting
    on some systems, including on my Amd64 based shuttles.  I have no idea
    why.  The chipset specs don't seem to talk about timer 1 much.
