:checkpoint file (binary object dumped by ckpt_checkpoint) be called?
:Where in the file system should the checkpoint file be written out to?

    Core files are written out to <blah>.core in the current directory, so
    checkpoint files should probably be written out to <blah>.ckpt in the
    currently directory.
