:no file being partly overridden...so what the fsck? What really
:bothers me is /etc/services being overwritten on every make upgrade,
:so modifying getservent() and its aunts and uncles makes pretty much
:sense to me.

Sorry, mixup between old and new threads.
/etc/mailer.conf is 'fixed', no further changes are envisioned.
The expectation for /etc/services is to have it and /etc/defaults/services.
