Problem booting from release cdrom in VirtualPC for Mac

The Virtual PC is not SMP, although the Mac is. CURRENT from 1 dec 2004 
is running on it fine.

the kernel is the one on install the cdrom.

Also if you have SMP and APIC defined but the machine doesn't have
APIC on the chips you will get this type of error.
