Battery Gage Getting Stuck on Laptop

Hello,
After my new laptop is booted for a while the battery gagev gets stuck. The sysctlg entry for battery status remains at the same percentage even if ac is plugged for a while or I let the battery drain. If I reboot it seems to work for a bit and then the cycle happens again where the gage works for a few minutes and then gets stuck. Is there any way to force the kernel to manually pole the battery status or reset something related to acpi without rebooting? Thanks.
