Actually even better, lets see if I can trivally add support for FreeBSD's
naming scheme.  Please try this patch (kernel source patch, recompile the
kernel).  Try it with the FreeBSD style 'hint.hadc.%d.blah' stuff as you
originally had.

If it works as expected I will commit it to master and release.  It's like
