HDMI sound / Out of kernel memory

I have an HDMI monitor but I get no sound from the system. I have just today upgraded to current, but older kernels didn't produce sound either.
Do I need to load a particular kernel module, or set a particular X option to get HDMI sound?
Monitor is an HP w2207h. I've attached my dmesg in case it helps.
There are several lines like
info: [drm] Initialized radeon 2.30.0 20080528
[TTM] Out of kernel memory
[TTM] Out of kernel memory
error: [drm:pid1160:radeon_gem_object_create] *ERROR* Failed to allocate GEM object (16384, 6, 4096, -12)
[TTM] Out of kernel memory
[TTM] Out of kernel memory
error: [drm:pid1160:radeon_gem_object_create] *ERROR* Failed to allocate GEM object (16384, 6, 4096, -12)
[TTM] Out of kernel memory
Is this something I should be concerned about?
Neil.
