Thank you for the suggestions Matt.

The option (1) worked fine with the following approach:
 . comment out dhcp enabled line in rc.conf
 . # ifconfig nfe0 polling
 . # dhclient nfe0

On another note, the same issue was noticed with NetBSD 5.x on 
the same box.
