The state of DragonFly and pkgsrc 2008Q4

:I crashed his system with my last build, but that was probably because it
:was a slightly older version of Hammer.

Those builds are wringing out the last few bugs in HAMMER. Nothing
earth shattering, mostly kmalloc/too-many-inodes related and that
sort of thing. The builds also found a race in one of the CRC checks
which caused a panic but no on-media corruption.

It's nice that we are now taking for granted that machine crashes
    don't mess up HAMMER's on-media state :-)

I also found that HAMMER's default cleanup options with its
5-minute-a-night pruning can't keep up with the workload on pkgbox.
I upped it to 40 minutes a day and it did better, but it still couldn't
keep up. I am trying to bracket it so I have it set to 2 hours
a day now to see if that does the job. Clearly 2 hours a day is not
desireable but I'm getting excellent data points on the issue.

In anycase, I fix the crashes as they come up and pkgbox seems to
    be stable now. Keep building!
