I want to share with you our experience in the JRSL08 yesterday. Hope
you can read my english.
JRSL08 started registration process at 10am, Agustin Nieto and me had
to talk about hammer at 11 am, there was another 7 talks at same time,
and unlucky for us there was a big hit international talk at same
hour, so we got real few people.
We started a few minutes late because acreditation was in big delay
(we skipped regitration, give the talk and then went back to entrance
to register ourself...)
The talk was smooth, we did a 10 minutes introduction to BSD story,
then DFBSD story, DFBSD goals, status of DFBSD project, after that I
did a 15 minutes introduction to Hammer features, and some practical
examples of the common Hammer use (newfs, mount, fstab, history, undo,
prune, reblock), we used a lot of screenshoots of the examples that we
had ran before the presentation to speed up the things (we had only
After show all the examples, i talked a little about the mirroring ,
and left last 10 minutes for questions.
There was a lot of questions, we had a dfbsd2 in a qemu ready to show
things, questions where focused on the automatization of backups, the
prune and reblock (use in crontab, -c -t, etc), and "when can i get
this in (put the name of your favorite os here)". The people was few
but everyone got very curious about hammer after the talk, everyone in
the room had at least one question to ask, even there was questions
about internal implementation.
We had to extend the questions session a little longer (until people
from next talk appeared and we had to left the room), anyway we kept
talking with some of them in the hall.
I think we can repeat this talk in the near future, just need to add
some data about the mirroring, and a better title, we noticed there
was people who was interested but the title said nothing to them
before the talk.
We used a PDF presentation, it will be published in the JRSL site, it
is in spanish only and was just a guide for us.
JRSL will continue today and tomorrow.
Something i noticed is there was real few bsd participation this year,
there was some poeople from openbsderos and people from the bug of y
university, thats all.
hope you enjoyed the review and it was pretty understandable.
