Troubles with mysql-server installation

Hey downloaded and installed the mysql-server-5.0.41.tgz
I could succecssfully make the client work (i can connect to another 
mysql server in different machine, running different OS).
But i cant start up the Mysql Server in my DFBSD :-/
I could successfully run the intall_db script.
I cant change user root password or start the server.

I found this error.
# mysql.server start

In log says:

After that i look for the missed file:
#find / -name host.frm
/var/mysql/mysql/host.frm
Im using almost the original my.cnf that comes with the pkg, its 
mysql-small.cnf with only change in the ports (hardcoded 3306) and DBD 
is disabled.

Any idea, im sure im misslooking something.
