nv driver performance is that bad?  I'm running with a combination of
Intel onboard and old ATI cards, and 2D performance is excellent.

I know you're frustrated, but that's no reason to get mean.

Right now, we can switch out to any MTA people want, including Postfix. 
This fixes the problem very well, and as Adrian Nida wrote, documenting it
would be very helpful.  Working on that, rather than yanking Sendmail and
adding Postfix, will help everyone, including non-Postfix users.  (plus,
it's probably easier.)
