I finally got pkgbox back up. Replacing the motherboard didn't help so
I didn't fool around and ordered a 500W 'SLI-Ready' power supply
for both pkgbox and apollo. That fixed the power-up problem on both
machines.
I think something must have burned out in the power supplies in bogh
machines. It's weird that they worked just fine once they were up,
but were unable to power-up (even with the disks disconnected). In
anycase, I am disrecommending 'Rosewill' AP-450X (which despite the
model name is actually 400W power supply).
I also ordered a bunch of external hot-swap disk enclosures for the
RAID arrays and moved all the drives out of the machines. They are
pretty slick. Nothing fancy, just four external SATA cables going
from each machine to each external disk enclosure.
