:> Hi.
:>
:> I'm running an AMD64. And was wondering if
:> there is any thing that I
:> can do, at the moment, that can take advantage
:> of the processor.
:> Really looking forward to the port, hope it's
:> soon :)
:>
:> I saw the amd64 dir in /usr/src and was just
:> wondering what can be
:> doen with it. Also in the handbook the kernel
:> tag amd64 is mentioned.
:> Tried it but it failed. Obviously something
:> missing.
:>
:> Any ideas or information? I did google but
:> didn't come up with anything.
:>
:
:Don't get too excited. An AMD64 build has much
:higher kernel/networking latencies in freeBSD 5.x
:than a 32 bit build, so its not a slam dunk to be
:better.

AMD64 support is going to require a concerted effort and isn't
going to happen until at least the journaling and a good chunk of
the BGL work is done. It might not happen until next year the way
things are going.
I don't know why the AMD64 build would be slower in FreeBSD 5.x.
It should be about the same speed with regards to network latencies.
