Aliases versus scripts

Hey guys,

just a general question here.  When you perform a task manually often, like
cvsupping, do you find it better to write a script or just set up an alias
to avoid typing a long command repeatedly?

I'm trying to go beyond the basics and really leverage the system to
simplify a lot of maintenance, since I've gone beyond workstations into
networks.
