IOAPIC and interrupt vector handler change

I don't think that there's a point for me to test IO_APIC on my desktop? 
Ie with mptable like this:

Which also makes me wonder ... Shouldn't it be made automatic? Without 
kernel option and stuff? If mptable is a crap, it's reverted to 8259? 
IMHO we have too many kernel options anyway ... ;)
