I know that you're just trying to get it to work, but I think this is
absolutely the wrong thing to do.
If there is broken hardware, you sometimes need to add some bandaids to
software so that it will run on broken hardware.
If the "hardware" is actually software, one should rather fix the
"hardware" to be standards compliant instead of adding bandaids to the
operating system.
This is clearly a virtualbox bug and needs to be addressed in virtualbox.
All other emulators manage to do it, so it can't be that hard.
