This is certainly a possibility.
FreeBSD has always seen problems with disk geometry. It rarely sees
the same geometry as Linux or (Net|Open)BSD, causing problems on
multiboot machines. There appeared recently a rather nice review of
FreeBSD on the Linux centric site kerneltrap.org, and they falled
immediately on this problem, that they call the "geometry bug".
