Heh. Not so much any more... at least I hope not. Diablo and INN both
consolidate multiple articles. There are still lots of files, e.g.
in Diablo typically one file per day holding all postings plus two
files per newsgroup, but not as many as the original INN.
But, yes, another reason often cited is so the filesystem on particular
partitions can be special-purpose tuned.
