building imake-4 with gcc3

Greetings,
I am a long-time FreeBSD user but just started using DragonFlyBSD a
couple of days ago. As such, I may be missing something basic here but I
could not find anything with Google.
I built DragonFlyBSD with CCVER=gcc3 set in /etc/make.conf. When trying
to build imake-4, I get an error at installation time about date.def.
This problem goes away if I set CCVER=gcc2. Looking at the log files,
when gcc3 is used, the OS is listed as unknown and certain operations
look for /lib/cpp rather than /usr/bin/cpp. Again, this is not a problem
with gcc2.
I would imagine there is some setting that needs to go in one of the
imake-4 configuration/template files but I could not quite put my finger
on it.
Thanks. I am looking forward to getting X11 up and running on
DragonFlyBSD.
