Thunderbird and nntp.dragonflybsd.org

Anyone else using Mozilla Thunderbird to access the DragonFly newsgroups?

Whenever Thunderbird checks for new messages on nntp.dragonflybsd.org, 
the corresponding folders show large numbers of unread messages, but as 
soon as I enter one of them it changes its mind and shows the real 
number of unread messages.

The same client shows none of this strange behaviour for news.gmane.org.

Any ideas?
