It is the nForce2 controller David.  I just replaced my older VIA 686
based board with the Asus a7n8x board I bought a while ago (and never
got around to put in).  It hangs during booting on the resetting 
devices
as well.

That's as I had suspected.  Its a controller  fairly newer than FBSD 
4.8 :)


My time's like a yo-yo at the moment so I have no idea when I get 
around
to look closer to thing/do stuff (like the list of network papers).
Its cool.  I have plenty of other stuff to do these days.
