unload snd_cmi.ko
boot
you probably can boot to the login?
I never saw this work, I mean "unload" just unloads
everything.
But nevertheless, the sequence
unload
load kernel
load snd_pcm
boot
panics as well.

The only thing that works is

unload
load kernel
boot
