dfports vs ports

:I may be flogging a dead horse here, as this may have been discussed 
:before, but I can't seem to find it -- so:

:I'd like to know the proposed functional/technical difference between 
:dfports and the regular freebsd ports system?

    dfports is a temporary hack to allow us to make DragonFly specific
    overrides to the FreeBSD ports system without importing the FreeBSD
    ports hierarchy into our CVS.
