    development.7: Modernize git commands for vendor import recipe
    
    Since Git v1.7.2, 'git checkout --orphan' is the proper way to create an
    orphan branch for vendor import.  Use the new git commands to simplify
    the vendor import recipe.
    
    In addition, polish the recipe a bit.
