:I think we should
:1) conditionalize this with NO_RELEASE_SRC
:and more important,
:2) put the sources plain on the CD, so that they can be used without having to unpack them on a hard disk first. furthermore I think that the sources can be compressed as good on the ISO instead of inside the ISO. Plus maybe we should not include CVS dirs in the source ball.
I'll fix the CVS dirs, we definitely do not need those.
I think we want to leave the sources compressed on the ISO even though
the ISO itself is compressed for distribution. I still want to leave as
much space as possible in the burned ISO for customization and increasing
the system source storage on the CD from 14 MB to 73 MB would be an
unnecessary waste of space.
Remember, these are only system sources... just enough to compile up the
kernel and modules, it is not the full blown tree. For someone wanting
to compile up a new kernel without any additional storage attached it
represents only ~73 MB more memory verses the 183 MB of memory required
to hold the objects, and the result wouldn't be very useful without
some storage to copy the kernel too anyway, let alone writable storage
to hold any source modifications/configuration changes.
Hey, I just had a thought... how about a gzipped-tar filesystem ? :-)
Man, I so want userland VFS. It would be so cool to just be able to
'cd' into an archive file.
