This bug seems to be related to FreeBSD PR kern/163154 and also issue http://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/2675 and http://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/2626.
I have a Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 card:
iwn0: <Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000> mem 0xd1500000-0xd1501fff irq 17 at device 0.0 on pci2
And when I try to start up via wpa_supplicant, it's giving me the following error:
wlan0: MAC address: 74:e5:0b:c5:85:34
iwn0: iwn_intr: fatal firmware error
firmware error log:
error type = "SYSASSERT" (0x00000005)

FreeBSD commit dd4e54a1ddf657f080a88c674e12459f404dea61 fixes this for Centrino 1000 NIC (I'll commit a patch in a few minutes).
