Ok, after having big problems with FreeBSD's ipw2200 driver (very often "no
carrier", this doesn't occur with DragonFlyBSD), I'll give it another try.
I've installed again 1.5.4 on my notebook and do another build with pkgsrc.

That's cooool, can you try following patch, it may fix your iwi
disassoc problem:
