dhclient broken

I have two separate 1.4 machines with rl cards connecting through DHCP -
one to a local dhcp server, and another to my cable Internet provider,
without issues.  I suspect your problem is with hardware.  Are you getting
a link light on the card when the cat5 cable is plugged in?
