Try the patch mentioned at
http://leaf.dragonflybsd.org/mailarchive/kernel/2005-01/msg00189.html ,
but you need to rebuild the kernel yourself for that.
       

This patch should have helped if the problem is an interrupt storm from
the sata controller. I tested this against a plain ICH6 where as the
hardware you have uses an ICH6R. The patch (already included in 1.2)
supports both. Are there messages about 'livelock' when you use verbose
booting?
     

Well, there seem to be none, at least I can't "catch" any. 
It stucks finally at isa_probe_children: probing for PnP devices.

   

Can you do:

set console=comconsole
set boot_verbose=yes
boot
at the boot menu and then
capture what comes out the serial port with something like minicom?
 

I'd love to, but I haven't got such gear there. I'll have to dig around 
a bit.
Is there no way to do without this?
