vnlur_proc lockups under high disk I/O

Hello,

I've been encountering total lockups under high disk I/O, this first
happened when I extracted a pkgsrc tarball but is also happening when
using cvsup to update ports and sources.

I've wiped /usr/src and /usr/obj and done a full buildworld today but it
has had no effect. The machine only works in 'bursts', ~5 seconds of
nothing followed by a few seconds of working normally. Sometimes the
system completely locks up and displays the following diagnostics.

vnlru_proc: vnode recycler stopped working!
vnlru_proc: vnode recycler stopped working!
vnlru_proc: vnode recycler stopped working!
. ..
The file system is left in dire need of fsck on a reboot.

It's entirely likely that I'm responsible as I use the machine as a
testing platform for just about everything.

Has anyone else had this problem? It's fairly reproducible so I can
provide more information to anyone who wants it. Otherwise it's a fresh
install of stable :)

Regards

Gary
