    Oh, I should add... how does one do a manual fsck?  Glad you asked!

    * Reboot

    * Select the boot into single-user mode option from the boot menu
      (option 4). 

    * Hit return when it asks you to specify the shell.

    * Type 'fsck' at the root prompt.

    * Reboot normally (well, you could ^D and continue the normal boot
      process, but I always 'reboot' after running a manual fsck).

    In anycase, I'm sure you already fsck, but if you only did it on one or
    two filesystems definitely do it over all of them 'fsck' with no 
    arguments.
