thunderbird build freezes DF on UP machine

:A few days ago I experienced DF stopping suddenly in the middle of a 
:Thunderbird build on an UP machine. It was a complete freeze that 
:required a power-off and fsck. This was very repeatable.

    Try it again with the latest sources, there've been a lot of little
    bug fixes here and there over the last few days.

    How exactly were you building thunderbird?  Were you just typing
    'make' in /usr/ports/mail/mozilla-thunderbird ?  Are you using NFS
    at all or was this all via local filesystems?
