Try putting your hard drive in PIO4 mode. /ATA/ATAPI support is a real
crap shoot, and even more so when two devices are sharing the same cable.

:I installed DF on an old 20gb HD which is on the same cable as the
:DVD-ROM. Every other reboot, consistently, DF gives a series of these
:messages and then hangs. Power off/on again and DF boots without complaint.
