Installer segfaults before cd copy operation

Thanks to Scott for making an installer iso

Not possible to test the new boot code though
as it segfaulted just before the copy operation
from the cd would have started.

The error message says '..core dumped' among other things..
not sure where the core file is or if this is helpful.

If anyone has advice on debugging I'd be more than pleased
to help in any way.
