mount_smbfs not working

I'm encountering the following problem which doesn't seem to exist in
FreeBSD 4-STABLE.

yoshi# ls -d /mnt/temp
/mnt/temp
yoshi# mount_smbfs -I 192.168.0.101 //destructive at bob/temp temp
mount_smbfs: can not setup kernel iconv table (default:tolower): syserr =
No such file or directory
yoshi# ls -d /var/db/pkg/samba*
/var/db/pkg/samba-2.2.8a
