user-ppp problems with new kernel

Hello,

a kernel change sometime between 20/1/2004 and 1/2/2004 seems to
cause LCP problems for me. I've put up a typescript of an unsuccessful
session on http://www.cc.ece.ntua.gr/~aoiko/typescript.bad (compare
with http://www.cc.ece.ntua.gr/~aoiko/typescript.ok). The only change
I could find that could be relevant is the systimer stuff, but I don't
have the time to do a binary search. Any ideas on what I should check
next?
