O.K.  I am back to this.  So, instead of using pkg_add, I should pull 
down the gnome-system-monitor sources and recompile?  Or the GTop libraries?

you should recompile libgtop and dependent applications

And those two. Try to recompile the port with header files matching your
kernel, it seems the kernel interface is newer than one the port was compiled
against.
