/compat/linux/dev/null

I'm trying to get OpenOffice to run. It was giving a permission error
on /dev/null. Since it's a Linux binary, I checked the one in /compat/linux,
and found that it was writable only by root. It appears to be a regular file,
rather than a character device. All other files in /compat/linux/dev/ are
symlinks. Why isn't null?
