boot safe mode question and kern.ipc.nmb* on live cd

Hmm,

if I understood correctly you want to know how to boot in "safe mode" 
from the LiveCD's loader prompt.

Try this:

unset acpi_load
set hw.ata.ata_dma=0
set hw.ata.atapi_dma=0
set hw.ata.wc=0
set kern.ipc.nmbufs=65536
set kern.ipc.nmbclusters=32768
boot
