rpath versus ld-elf.so.hints?

The ld-elf.so.hints mechanisms is a horrible artefact from a.out days.
ldconfig should serve only one point in an ELF world: system and compat
libraries.

cdparanoia is linked fine here. Do you have a current libtool?
