Nope. You can get sources from $project and compile them yourself, using 
the usual ./configure, make and make install process. There you can 
decide where every piece will go, overwrite it with newer versions, etc. 
Only pain is, you have to look after dependencies on other software 
yourself, which is a major PITA in open sores projects. Everyone seems 
to think they need to include massive libraries to use some function 
they could implement themselves as well.
