cdparanoia and cdda2wav choking on last track of enhanced CD's

I'm having a problem with cdparanoia and cdda2wav choking on enhanced CD's.

It gets past the audio part of the last track before data, and it ends
up with this.

CDB: BE 04 00 02 D8 F2 00 00 1A 10 00 00

Sense Key: 0x5 Illegal Request, Segment 0
Sense Code: 0x64 Qual 0x00 (illegal mode for this track) Fru 0x0
Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid)
cmd finished after 0.002s timeout 300s
cdda2wav: Input/output error. ReadCD MMC 12: scsi sendcmd: retryable error

cdda2wav also fails to detect my cds as cd-extra.

Has anyone seen this before? It's on an ata dvd drive, I also get
similar behavior on my usb cd burner.

Here's some info on my system.

Is this just a known issue with cdparanoia? I did some googling, and I
saw some old
articles about linux having this problem around 2.3, but I haven't
seen anything recent or related to bsd.

Any Ideas?
