Hello,
This is my final report regarding my GSOC project.

During the past weeks I was working on documentation and writing/submitting my evaluation. For students this year’s GSOC is over and the only thing I have to do yet is to submit my code sample.

The goal of my project was adding the compression feature to HAMMER2, and by the end of GSOC we had this feature working and the user is able to select between two algorithms (fast LZ4 and slower, but with better compression ratio, ZLIB). The feature seems to be pretty stable since we were able to pass several stressful benchmarks without having errors or crashes.

I’m very satisfied with the results of the project and I must say that it was a great experience. It was very interesting and engaging project, I learned a lot about operating systems and file systems, and it definitely contributed to my growth as a developer.

I’d like to thank my mentor, Matthew Dillon, for always having time to help me and answer all my questions. Without his help this project wouldn’t be so successful.
I’d also like to thank everyone who sent feedback… I received quite a lot of it and it was very encouraging and useful.
Finally, thanks to the entire DragonFly community for making this awesome operating system.

I hope that I’ll be able to contribute more to DragonFly, even though for now I’ll be working on a different project. One of the things I was interested in from the start was HAMMER2 encryption feature, so hopefully I'll work on it in the future.

Thank you!

Daniel
