amd64 3.8 livecd and latest ISO won't mount root at boot

I managed to boot to the installer using the USB image but it fails
mounting root as the cd is available at this point I mounted the rootfs
using the cd.
 Now installing using the hammerfs produces a kernel panic, I'll try using
UFS for the moment.
