:
:I just installed DragonFly-i386-LATEST-BOOT.tar.bz2 on one of my boxes
:because I had an unstable kernel. Unfortunatley this tarball also
:contains a loader.conf (for Live-CD) and my original loader.conf is
:gone. Maybe we should not ship this or ship it as loader.conf.dist or
:so? I think the common case to use these kernel snapshots are when
:replacing kernel and modules on an existing system.

I don't quite understand. The /boot/loader.conf on an ISO or IMG
is designed for the ISO/IMG boot, not for a HD boot. The installer
should (haven't checked recently) install a different loader.conf
    on the HD.

If you are copying things manually then you have to be careful what
    you copy.
