Knowing the quality of Matt's work, I'm rather confident with
switching to ACHI even in my quite unsure installation (old P4 system
with not very reliable no-name PCI SATA card + IDE/UFS system drive).
The only thing I'm wondering about is can it be also supported with
some kind of tool to map fstab entries from adX to serial number/UUID
disk names? I mean some helper script running within, probably,
mergemaster procedure.

Or, at least some kind of HOWTO to handle this kind of things.
