No exotic means using tendra :P
But indeed the availability of free Common Lisp compilers, for say 64bit
BSDs, is limited. And Common Lisp is bloated, which is not want you want
in base. But scheme which is much smaller and is rather easy to compile
and interpret is very good suited.

Well, then make them base. Especially the ocaml compiler is great with
a tools suit much like C (you can use gprof etc.) and is rather portable too.
But i'd say a more dynamic language is better suited for package management.
Ocaml is more for speed in my book.
