There's a new HAL+driver available at http://people.freebsd.org/~sam/ in
the form of a patch against FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE. The two files needed
are net80211+ath-20041015.tgz and rtsock.patch. With those two
patches, I've been able to use a D-LINK DWL-G650 rev. B2, a NetGEAR
WG511T, and the built-in Atheros 5212 chipset in my Toshiba A60, all at
54 Mb/s, with 128-bit WEP. These patches split the wlan and ath
drivers into smaller pieces, with separate wlan drivers (wlan_tkip,
wlan_ccrm, wlan_wep) for each encription scheme, and with separate rate
drivers for ath (ath, ath_rate_onoe).

Might be worth looking at those patches.
