Matt,

did you ever look at what Sprite did?

http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/projects/sprite/sprite.html

"Sprite is a distributed operating system that provides a single system
image to a cluster of workstations. It provides very high file system
performance through client and server caching. It has process migration to
take advantage of idle machines. It was used as a testbed for research in
log-structured file systems, striped file systems, crash recovery, and RAID
file systems, among other things."

ISO can be found from: ftp://www.es.embnet.org/pub/misc/TUHS/

Seems a lot of unencubered code and ideas can be gained from that project in
order to give DF an even faster boost in the back to get to clustering and
such.
Would be a shame to leave this to the side. :)
